Description
The procedure concerns the approval of the establishment and operation of pet raising and breeding facilities in which various breeds of dogs, cats and other companion animals, as well as songbirds, are bred. Indicatively, the following dog breeds may be mentioned: Hunting breeds, herding breeds, scouts and guardian breeds.

The applicant must possess taxisnet username and password.
A special independent building is required, outside the city plan at a distance of at least 100 metres from the nearest residence or other premises and spaces/areas (kindergartens, schools, playgrounds, sports fields, gardens, churches, hospitals, or clinics with over 20 beds, venues for social or cultural events and group gatherings in general). The building should have specific spaces for the required functionalities of the installation, according to the specifications defined in the PD 463/1978 and in particular in Article 3 thereof, as amended by Article 14 of Law 3170/2003 (For the approval of the establishment).
Approval for the establishment must have been previously obtained (For the approval of the operation).
Determination:
1. of a veterinarian who will undertake the sanitary supervision and the supervision of the facility as a scientific manager, and of his qualifications,
2. of the animals served / to be served by the facility,
3. of the facilities and the equipment used.
(For the approval of the operation).
For the approval of the operation: Legitimate status of the declared veterinarian who will undertake the sanitary supervision and the supervision of the facility as a scientific manager. The Veterinarian must comply with the obligations set out in Article 6 of PD 463/1978.
Completion of the configuration and equipment of the facility in accordance with the technical study and Article 3 of PD 463/1978, as amended by Article 14 of Law 3170/2003 (For the approval of the operation).

The procedure (competence) has recently (2021) been transferred from the Department for the Protection of Companion Animals and Other Animals of the Directorate of Animal Protection, Drugs and Veterinary Applications of the General Directorate of Veterinary Medicine of the General Secretariat for Rural Development and Food of Article 7 of PD 97/2017 (A 138), to the newly established Department for the Protection of Companion Animals of the Ministry of Interior.
